Social Responsibility

Our core business of mortgages provides home ownership to so many people across the UK, so our social responsibility is defined by helping the less fortunate – the homeless. We contribute our time to the local homeless community twice a week, helping to provide hot meals and clothes. We support the local charity, “3 Pillars – Feeding the Homeless” in many ways:

  • Our head office is the drop-off point for food and clothes donations from the public
  • Storage space is provided for the holding of clothes and food for the charity
  • Our car park is used for the storage of charity transport vehicles
  • Staff members also offer their time to help the charity in the evenings
  • Our team assist with the preparation of hot drinks and sandwiches prior to delivery to the delivery point.

A message from The 3 Pillars – Feeding the Homeless

The 4 Trustees of the above Charity would like to give our sincere thanks for the Support we have from The Mortgage Broker Ltd and their staff towards our Charity.

They have very kindly allowed us to use their premises as a base and the use of the bus they have on site as a store for all our stock and clothing. We also keep our large Green Van, affectionately known as the “Green Pig” on site.

We have the use of the Canteen and two of the Staff ensure we always have a supply of hot water for our Urns for taking hot drinks to our Feeding Station at Peterborough. Plus, any goods that are dropped off from our very generous supporters are happily collected and stored by members of Staff.

We also have our volunteers, known as the Magic Fairies, cleaning out the Van, unloading restocking and sorting out all our goods, again on site at The Mortgage Broker Ltd with full use of the facilities within their head office.

The Mortgage Broker Team are often on rota and regularly prepare food for us to take to our feeding Station, and Darren the owner will also drive the Green Pig when we need assistance, and help on the Front Line when required.

About The 3 Pillars – Feeding the Homeless Trust

The 3 Pillars – Feeding the homeless Trust was conceived by Mick Pescod and Ged Dempsey – Freemasons from the Provice on Northamptonshire and Huntingonshire. Initially they undertook a number of trial runs at the car park of the Brewery Tap in Peterborough on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, and now feed and offer clothing and bedding to over 60 people per night. The vision is to expand this project geographically and increase the frequency of the support across the province but first need to make sure that the model works and can be fully supported.

Mick says “We have had great assistance from members of the public, similar minded groups such as ‘Helping Huntingdon Homeless’ founded by Karen Dunn, who has been amazing”.

“All donations collected from any direction are fully accountable, and all monies raised goes directly to looking after the homeless in this area. The most critical support is volunteers to assist on-site to feed the people who are in real need of this help. Once this is fully established it is our wish to expand this to other locations within the region”.

As well as providing food and clothing the charity has helped house a number of homeless people and assisted with securing employment.
