The First Time Buyer Mortgage Process

The 10 steps in the first time buyer mortgage journey.

1. Understand Affordability

Speak to a mortgage adviser, understand your financial position and get an agreement in principle

2. Make an Offer

Offer Accepted. Back to Mortgage Broker to find and confirm best lender and a solicitor. Your broker can recommend a solicitor.

3. Instruct a Solicitor

The solicitor will send you a welcome pack. You can hold off searches until offer is issued if you prefer. That way you can get a refund if something stops it going through.

4. Submit Mortgage App

Submit full mortgage application, pay valuation fee (if applicable) - this fee is non-refundable.

5. Protection Appointment

Discuss all your protection needs with the protection specialist. Build dreams, but protect your future.

6. Mortgage Offer Issued

Return the solicitor pack completed, and receive initial contracts.

7. Start Property Searches

Once the solicitor starts the searches your fees are non-refundable. Solicitor will advise on any further searches required.

8. Pay Deposit

Once you have completed all the searches, you can agree a completion date and your solicitor will request the deposit and their fees.

9. Exchange Contracts

Once a date is set you will exchange contracts.

10. Completion

You will receive a call from your solicitor or Estate Agent notifying you that all contracts are complete.
